Calculate steel weight and aluminium weight

The weight calculator uses the formula weight = volume x density. For steel we use a practical density of 8.00 kg/dm3, for stainless steel 7.90 kg/dm3 and for aluminium 2.70 kg/dm3. Values are guide figures; alloy, standard and tolerances can slightly change the actual weight.

  • Standard length: 6000 mm
  • Sheets: length x width x thickness
  • Profiles: cross-section x length
  • Result: kg per piece, total weight and kg/m

Which shapes can the calculator handle?

Sheet and plate

For steel sheets and aluminium sheets, length x width x thickness is used. The result is suitable for a rough calculation of piece weight, area weight and transport weight.

Solid profiles

Flat steel, round bar, square and rectangular solid profiles are calculated using the solid cross-section and length.

Hollow profiles and tubes

For round and rectangular tubes, the calculator subtracts the inner cross-section. Outer dimensions and wall thickness are required.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the weight calculator

How accurate is the weight calculator?

The calculator provides guide values based on geometric formulas and typical material densities. Rolling tolerances, alloys and surfaces can slightly affect the real weight.

Which density is used for steel?

Steel is calculated with 8.00 kg/dm3. Stainless steel is preset to 7.90 kg/dm3, aluminium to 2.70 kg/dm3.

Can I calculate the weight of aluminium sheets?

Yes. Choose aluminium, then sheet / plate, and enter length, width, thickness and quantity.

Can Franz Huisgen cut the calculated parts?

Yes. Many sheets and profiles can be cut or processed to match your order. Send us your dimensions and requirements.
